Western Carolina Women's Basketball Game Notes
Five Things to Know
- DEJA VU: Every player from the 2016-17 Western Carolina women's basketball season returns for the 2017-18 season. The Catamounts will also have four players added to the roster ready to play as Erykah Russell and Mariah Locklear return from a redshirt and junior college newcomers Kennedy Rushin and Judith Martin Ruiz will also suit up for the Catamounts.
- BONNER BONUS: Senior forward Sherae Bonner is the most decorated returning player ... She was a 2017 All-Southern Conference Third Team selection and ranked second on the team averaging 10.1 points per game ... Shas 655 career rebounds ranking her 12th in the WCU record books. She eclipsed the 600 rebound mark in her junior campaign. Bonner needs 15 rebounds to move into 11th place replacing former Catamount Serena Surratt who ended her Catamount career (1981-15) with 669. Should Bonner eye the top spot for rebounds in the WCU record books she has some work to do in her senior campaign to catch a pioneer in the women's basketball program here at Western Carolina as former WCU standout Brenda Johnson (1974-77) ened her career with 1,018.
- BLOCKING BONNER: • Sherae Bonner currently has 103 career blocks ranking her fourth in the WCU record books. She also ranks 12th in the Catamount books for rebounds with 650.
- FARRINGTON TOPS: Junior guard Raziyah Farrington is Western Carolina's top returning scorer as she completed her sophomore campaign by pacing the team averaging 10.3 points per game ... Her 308 points scored was a season-high.
DAVIDSON/UNCA: WesternCarolina and Davidson meet for the 51st time in the two team's history ... The meeting in Cullowhee will be the second time the two teams have met since the Wildcats left the Southern Conference in 2014 ... Davidson has won the last nine meetings including the most recent game in 2015 when the Wildcats defeated WCU at Davidson 64-51 ... WCU last's win against Davidson came when the Wildcats were still a member of the Southern Conference in 2011 with the Catamounts coming away with a 60-48 victory in Cullowhee ... All told, Davidson holds a slight advantage over Western Carolina in Cullowhee 12-11 ... Western Carolina and UNCA meet for the 43rd time on Sunday ...
