Kristen Feemster Named Candidate for Lowe's Senior Class Award
Kristen Feemster was named a candidate for the Lowe's Senior Class Award.

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina women's basketball senior forward Kristen Feemster has been named as one of the 30 candidates for the Lowe's Senior Class Award - making her one of the top seniors in the nation. She becomes the second-consecutive Western Carolina women's basketball player, to be nominated for this award and is the lone representative from the Southern Conference. Last season Catamount women's basketball standout Brooke Johnson was a candidate for the award.
Based on criteria focusing on the "Four C's" of classroom, character, community and competition, the award winners will be selected by national balloting of head basketball coaches, national media and college basketball fans. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in SchoolTM, the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Feemster personifies all the qualities of the Lowe's Senior Class Award. She carries a 3.94 GPA in Psychology; she has been on the Southern Conference All-Academic All-Conference list multiple times, is a team captain for the 2009-10 squad, is heavily involved in community service and is the official blogger for the Catamount women's basketball team as well as maintains her own Twitter site.

The list of 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists each midway through the regular season, and those10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one finalist who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of classroom, character, community and competition.
This marks the ninth year for the basketball division of the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. Previous winners of the women's award include Sue Bird of Connecticut (2002), LaToya Thomas of Mississippi State (2003), Alana Beard of Duke (2004), Kendra Wecker of Kansas State (2005), Seimone Augustus of LSU (2006), Alison Bales of Duke (2007), Candice Wiggins of Stanford (2008) and Courtney Paris of Oklahoma (2009).
