Western Carolina Basketball Opens Season with 'Catamount Madness'

Nov. 3, 2015

Cullowhee, N.C. - Catamount Nation got its first look at the 2015-16 Western Carolina men’s and women’s basketball teams on Tuesday night with the annual Catamount Madness event held inside the friendly confines of the Ramsey Center.

Both the Western Carolina men’s and women’s basketball teams were joined by the Catamount spirit squads – the WCU Dance Team and Catamount Cheerleaders – as well as the “Cat House Band,” for a special preseason pep rally and preview of the upcoming seasons. Students and community members alike were involved in special dance competitions and interactive games of knock-out, while also witnessing an intrasquad dunk contest by the Catamount men.

WCU’s women’s squad opens its season in exhibition action this Friday, Nov. 6 against Lees McRae with tip-off at 7:00 pm. The Catamount women officially open the Stephanie McCormick era a week later by hosting Brevard College on “Education Day” with a special midday tip-off scheduled for Noon.

Head coach Larry Hunter and the Catamount men’s basketball team open their season on Nov. 13, on the road at Cincinnati in a game that can be seen on ESPN3. Two days later – on Sunday, Nov. 15 – WCU opens the home portion of its schedule in the backend of a Catamount hoops double-header. The women host Anderson College at 2 pm while the men host mountain-rival UNC Asheville in a crucial early-season match-up against the Bulldogs at 4:30 pm.
