Get to Know: Q&A With Seniors Brown and Mutombo

On the heels of the Southern Conference Coaches’ preseason poll, in which Western Carolina women’s basketball and men’s basketball were each picked to finish eighth and ninth respectively, we continue the question and answer series with members of Catamount men’s and women’s basketball. Today, senior forward Julia Brown, from Greensboro, N.C., and senior guard Haboubacar Mutombo, from Pickering, Ontario, are highlighted.

What motivates you to work hard? Brown: My family and my teammates. Mutombo: My family; my brothers and parents.

Have you ever had a nickname? What is it? Brown: My teammates call me Ju. Mutombo: Bouba, H, Tumbo.

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream? Brown: Coffee with cookie dough in it. Mutombo: Cookies and cream.

If you could choose to do anything for a day, what would it be? Brown: Be a dolphin trainer Mutombo: Shop

Favorite off-season activity? Brown: Hiking and being outside. Mutombo: Swimming

What is your proudest accomplishment? Brown: Winning four state championships in high school. Mutombo: Getting into a four-year program and graduation.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? Brown: A marine biologist Mutomobo: An artist or painter.

What's your favorite zoo animal? Brown: Otter Mutombo: Lion

Favorite thing about playing a home game at Western Carolina? Brown: The atmosphere of the Ramsey Center. I also love the huge flag and being surrounded by purple and gold. Mutomobo: The fans, the energy and the environment.

Your goals for the 2017-18 season? Brown: Grow as a team and win the SoCon. Mutombo: First team awards (any), SoCon Championship and win.
