CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina Head Women's Basketball Coach Karen Middleton announced the addition of two Catamounts for the 2013-14 season: Alexis Carter (Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy, Atlanta, Ga.) and Justin Taylor (Louisburg Community College, Gastonia, N.C.).
Carter, a 6-2 post player, was the Class A Player of the Year and South Fulton Player of the Year in 2013. She led her team to three state championship games and her team was 28-4 this past season. As a senior, she averaged 14 points, 11 rebounds, three steals and three blocks per game.
"Alexis is long, athletic and has the ability to score inside and out. She can hit the three and finishes well in the paint. She is exceptional in transition and has great timing as a shot blocker," Middleton said. "Alexis has a bright future. She will add to our versatility in the post and make a difference for our team."
Taylor, a 5-8 guard, led Louisburg Community College to the NJCAA National Championship. She was named the national tournament MVP assisting her team to a 32-3 record in 2012-13. She averaged 15 points, four rebounds and two assists per game. Taylor was also ranked third in the nation in free throw percentage with 89 percent.
"Justin is a proven winner. She is a scorer and competes with incredible intensity," Middleton said. "She has great vision as a passer and is willing to do whatever her team needs. Justin has a very high basketball IQ and makes her teammates better. Justin will make an immediate impact for our team with her energy and skill set."
