SALISBURY, N.C. - Western Carolina senior forward Jennifer Gardner was one of ten women's basketball student-athletes named to the 2004-05 North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) University Division All-State Women's Basketball Teams.

Gardner was one of two Southern Conference players tabbed to the first team, and one of three SoCon players honored.

The NCCSIA All-state teams consist of five student-athletes from North Carolina NCAA Division I colleges and universities. Nominees were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals and were voted on by NCCSIA members. Teams are selected for men and women in both the college and university (NCAA Division I) divisions.

Three first team selections helped their respective squads to post-season play. Sakellie Daniels, of Charlotte, and Liz Strunk, of Wake Forest, helped their teams to WNIT berths, while Jennifer Gardner helped Western Carolina to the NCAA Tournament.

The second team consists of Kristen Boone, of UNC-Greensboro, the only freshman on either squad, High Point's Charlena Martin and Katie O'Dell, Shameka Smith, of Gardner-Webb, and Cotelia Bond-Young, of Wake Forest.

Gardner was a first team All-Southern Conference selection and was named the SoCon Tournament Most Outstanding Player as the Lady Catamounts earned their first-ever title and berth in the NCAA Tournament. She averaged 13.5 points and 9.2 rebounds last season and finished eighth on the WCU scoring chart with 1,362 points and third in rebounds with 890.

Founded in 2002, The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of North Carolina. The purpose of the organization is to promote collegiate athletics at all schools. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina, and whose area of responsibility lies within sports information.

NCSSIA selects all-state teams in the University (Division I) and College (Division II, III, NAIA) divisions for men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, softball and baseball.
