Western Carolina Faces Elon Sunday in Semifinals of SoCon Tournament

March 8, 2008

CHARLESTON, S.C. - No. 2 seeded Western Carolina women's basketball (24-7) will face No. 6 seeded Elon (12-19) Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the semi-finals of the Southern Conference Tournament Championship in North Charleston Coliseum. The game will be televised on SportSouth and will also broadcast on Power 90 dot five.

The last meeting between Western Carolina and Elon was an epic four overtime game in which the Lady Catamounts escaped 102-101. This meeting is the first between the two schools in the Southern Conference Tournament.

It is the 27th overall meeting between the two programs with Elon holding a slight 14-12 advantage in the series. Head Coach Kellie Harper is 7-3 all-time against Elon in her four-year career at helm of the Lady Cat program.

The Lady Catamounts' 24 wins this season ties the school record for victories in a season. A victory on Sunday would give Western Carolina 25 wins and break the school record

Kristen Feemster BLOG ABOUT GAME WITH ELON

As I'm writing this, we are on our way to practice to prepare for our game tomorrow against Elon. The last time we played Elon we went to four overtimes but ended up winning 102 to 101. Games like those are exciting, unique, and unexpected but we hope to pull out the win in regulation this time around. At the end of our game against Wofford, Kellie said that the conference tournament is about surviving and advancing. I really took to that saying to heart because it fits so perfectly with the game coming up tomorrow.

Elon has a very good basketball team and we need to be focused and play with intensity the entire time we're out on the floor. Though winning in regulation would be ideal, we will be ready to do whatever it takes to advance to the championship game Monday.
