North Charleston, S.C. - Western Carolina guard Monique Dawson was named to the Southern Conference Women's Basketball Championship All-Tournament second team. Dawson (Charlotte, N.C./Vance HS) averaged 14.5 points in leading the Lady Catamounts to a quarterfinal win over Appalachian State and a near upset of top-seed, and eventual champion, Chattanooga in the semifinal.

Dawson was the only Catamount honored and just one of two players to be named to the 10-person team that was not from the champion (Chattanooga) or runner-up (UNC Greensboro) teams.

In the opening-round game, Dawson helped Western defeat Appalachian State for the third time during the 2005-06 season. She scored 12 points. With Western clinging to a four-point lead, Dawson drained 7-of-8 from the free throw line inside the final 46 seconds to secure the win.

In the semifinals, Dawson scored a team-high 17 points, draining three 3-pointers and grabbing five rebounds. With Western down 10 at halftime, Dawson hit a trey to cap a WCU run, cutting the deficit to two. Later, she had a steal and two free throws, once again making it a two-point game. With just over two minutes left, Dawson sank a 3-pointer from the left wing, tying the game at 71-71. She also got a key defensive rebound, leading to Chevon Keith's jumper which gave WCU a 73-71 lead with a minute to go.
