CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina women's basketball (11-14, 6-10 Southern Conference) begins a three-game home-stand Saturday hosting Chattanooga (18-7, 13-3 SoCon) at 2 p.m. in the Ramsey Center. The game is also women's basketball's annual Pink Zone event and fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of breast cancer research.
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will be selling its "Whee Think Pink" T-shirts to in its year-long effort to raise money for breast cancer research. The T-shirts will be available for $10 on the concourse of the Ramsey Center.
MENENDEZ PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kaila'Shea Menendezwas named Southern Conference and NetScouts Women's Basketball Player of the Week ... It was the first time receiving either honor for the senior from Raleigh, N.C. ... She led the Catamounts to a 2-0 week, last weekend, defeating Wofford and Furman on the road ... In Western Carolina's 58-54 win over Wofford, Menendez scored 15 points, 13 of them coming in the second half ... In Monday night's 51-48 overtime victory at Furman, the 5-foot-8 guard led all players with 23 points. She scored all seven of the Catamounts' points in overtime, hitting one field goal and going 5-of-6 from the line. Menendez averaged 19 points last week and shot 46 percent from the field. She also finished 4-of-5 from long range and went 10-of-14 from the charity stripe ... She also moved into eighth place in the Western Carolina record books for free throws made in a career as she sits at 327.
WIN STREAK: WCU is riding a four-game winning streak, tying longest of the season ... Catamounts have also won five of the last six games.

RANKING IN THE SOCON: Western Carolina ranks third in the Southern Conference in scoring defense allowing 56.7 points per game ... the Catamounts rank second in rebounding defense at 36.0 per game ... Kaila'Shea Menendez ranks ninth in scoring, averaging 12.2 points per game, ranks sixth in free throw percentage (82.3) and ninth in steals (1.8 per game) ... Shauna Terry ranks fifth in blocked shots, she has 37 and is averaging 1.5 per game.
