Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina women's basketball team defeated the Atlanta Blackhawks, 93-86, in the teams last exhibition game of the season Saturday night in the Ramsey Center.

The Lady Cats fell to a six point deficit in the first 10 minutes of the game. At the 3:32 mark Yoneko Allen hit two free throws to bring the score within one (32-31). The Blackhawks outscored the Lady Cats 11-3 to enter the half with a score of 42-35.

Shortly into the second half Western came alive and took the lead at the 15:53 mark with a jumper by Laura Echols. The Blackhawks tied the game on two other occasions, however, Western notched 15 second chance points to Atlanta's seven to win the game 93-86.

WCU was led by Allen and Echols with 25 points each. Echols recorded the teams only double-double with 10 rebounds. Tiffany Hamm added double figure scoring with 14.

Western Carolina will open the season November 16-17 when they will travel to Orlando, Fla. for the UCF Tournament. The Lady Cats will play Bethune-Cookman Friday, November 16 and UCF Saturday, November 17. Both games will start at 3:00 pm.
