Women's Basketball Wins First Exhibition Game

Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina women's basketball team defeated the Smokey Mountain Swarm Sunday afternoon in the Ramsey Center.

Western Carolina led Smokey Mountain 24-51 at the half and did not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the game. The Lady Cats outscored the Swarm 54-31 in the second half.

Western Carolina senior Kris Kent led the team with 19 points in the 105-55 victory with sophomore Marsha McGillivary and junior Laura Echols adding 13 and 16 respectively. Freshman Tiffany Hamm shot 7-for-8 from the free throw line contributing 17 points.

Quicha Floyd, a N.C. State grad, led the Swarm with 20 points. It was followed with 13 points from Chanda Stebbins, a graduate of University of Florida.

The Lady Cats will host the Asheville Rage Thursday, November 9 at 7:00 p.m.
