Tréka McMillian begins her fifth season as an assistant coach with the Western Carolina University women's basketball team. Hired on June 1, 2009, McMillian, was reunited with fellow teammate from the University of South Carolina, Head Coach Karen Middleton. McMillian will play a big role in recruiting, scouting, scheduling and developing the Catamount post players as well as many other day-to-day duties.

Prior to coming to Western, McMillian coached one season as the Head Coach at Guilford Technical Community College in North Carolina. In Guilford's inaugural season, McMillian led the Lady Titans to a 22-8 record, was co-champs of the Carolinas/Virginia Conference and won the NJCAA Division I Region X Tournament. McMillian coached two players to the all-conference team and three to the all-regional tournament team.

Before her stint at Guilford Tech, McMillian served as Head Coach at Minneapolis Community and Technical College in Minnesota. She revived a program that was dormant in 1999 and in 2004 led her team to a NJCAA Division III national championship. McMillian coached two MCCC Players of the Year and one National Player of the Year. She was national coach of the year and Region XIII coach of the year in 2004. She also snagged coach of the year honors in the Minnesota Community College Conference in 2001 and 2002. McMillian has an overall record of 103-39 as a head coach.

During her time at Minneapolis CTC, McMillian spent three summers working with the WNBA's Minnesota Lynx, serving as the director of basketball operations and equipment manager. During her time with the Lynx McMillian worked with two Olympians, Andrea Lloyd-Curry and Katie Smith. In her final season with the Lynx, she served as an assistant coach working with scouting and post players.

Prior to Minneapolis, McMillian coached for two years at Division II Concordia-St. Paul where she was responsible for budget, team travel, recruiting and post player development. She started her collegiate coaching career at the University of Minnesota in 1993 as an assistant working with recruiting, scouting, film exchange, post player development and travel. While at Minnesota, she helped the Gophers to their first ever NCAA tournament berth. She coached two All-Big Ten players and one Kodak All-American (Carol Ann Shudlick).

McMillian played collegiately at the University of South Carolina (1988-1992) where she was voted team captain her last two years, a member of two Metro Conference championships and named to the SEC All-Academic team in her senior year.

McMillian graduated with a dual degree in Physical Education and Athletic Training at South Carolina in 1992. She also earned her master's degree in Sport Management from Minnesota in 1998.

A native of Chadbourn, NC, McMillian graduated from West Columbus High School where she was all state and selected to play in the East/West All-Star game.
