Cullowhee, N.C. -
Western Carolina men's golf coach Gorham Bradley today announced the signing of Martin Summer (Newberry, S.C.) and Kyle Wilson (Mt. Airy, N.C.) to National Letters of Intent for next season.
"Kyle and Martin will both impact our program immediately next fall," said Bradley on his two signings. "They each have great vision of what they want to achieve and a tremendous work ethic, which are both essential to continuing the recent strides that our golf program has made."
Summer was a quarterfinalist in the South Carolina Junior Match Play, as well as a runner-up in the South Carolina Junior Golf Association (SCJGA) Players Championship with consecutive rounds of 73 and 70. The Newberry, S.C., native also posted a top ten finish at the Florence Junior, duplicating his rounds of 73 and 70, respectively.
As a junior, Summer tied for fourth at the SCGA Junior Championship, shooting rounds of 73, 67 and 72, and then helped South Carolina defeat Georgia in the SC-GA Junior Challenge Matches.
Wilson is a three-time, Northwest 1A All-Conference selection for Mount Airy High for which he has earned team MVP honors each of his first three seasons. Last year, he won four individual medalist honors including the Atlantic Coast Junior Masters with consecutive rounds of 70. The winning continued through his junior season as Wilson also won the Eastern Junior Golf Association tournament in Siler City, N.C., the National Junior Golf Club tournament at the Pitt and the Trusted Choice "Big I" regional qualifier.
Additionally, Wilson finished fifth out of 120 golfers in the stroke play portion of the North Carolina Junior at Cedarbrook Country Club in Elkin and qualified for the Optimist Internationally Junior Championships.
Bradley and the Catamounts open the spring portion of their 2007-08 season February 25-26 competing for the Cuthbert Cup, hosted by the College of Charleston at the Osprey and Cougar Point Golf Links at Kiawah Island, S.C. Western posted four-consecutive top five team finishes, including a pair of runner-up tallies and the WCU Intercollegiate team championship to close out the fall.
