Kiawah Island, S.C. - The Western Carolina men’s golf team opens play in its final tournament of the fall portion of its 2017-18 schedule on Sunday, competing in the East Bay Deli Classic at Kiawah, hosted by Charleston Southern at the par-72, 6,911-yard Turtle Point Golf Course.
The 54-hole tournament will be spread over three days with tee times off the first hole both Sunday and Monday beginning at 8:00 am. Tuesday’s final round will have a shotgun start beginning at 9:00 am. Live scoring of each round is available online through GolfStatResults.com.
In addition to the host Buccaneers and Catamounts, the 15-team field includes College of Charleston, Coastal Carolina, Chattanooga, Francis Marion, Jacksonville State, High Point, Memphis, Presbyterian, Rutgers, Stetson, Tennessee, USC Upstate, and Winthrop.
Tennessee won the 2016 East Bay Deli Classic with a 54-hole tally of 3-over par, 867. Wofford’s Andrew Novak earned medalist honors with a composite score of 7-under.
With a unique tournament format, six Catamounts will comprise the scoring team with the top five scores each day counting. WCU’s scoring five is led by senior Dylan MacQueen, fresh off his tournament championship at Elon that included a career-low round of 62. He is flanked by classmates Jackson Bishop and Bright Julamool, with junior George Whitbread and freshmen Michael Coe and Chandler Metz rounding out the lineup. Playing unattached as an individual is freshman Zach Caudill giving WCU seven golfers in the field.
Paired with golfers from Coastal Carolina and Jacksonville State, Western Carolina’s scoring six will tee off the front nine beginning at 10:24 am. Caudill will tee off at Noon, paired with individuals from Chattanooga and USC Upstate.
