Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina men's golf team returns to action beginning this Sunday at The Invitational at the Ocean Course on Kiawah Island, S.C. The Ocean Course, home of the 1991 Ryder Cup and 2012 PGA Championship, will be set up at par 72 and 7,080 yards for the tournament.
For a fourth-consecutive year, the College of Charleston will host the Invitational. Florida, currently ranked No. 40 in the country, has won the tournament the last two seasons. The 54-hole, three-day event features 18 holes each day with tee times beginning at 7:50 am Sunday and Monday with a final round, shotgun start on Tuesday.
Western Carolina, under the direction of first-year head coach Bryant Odom, is led by junior J.T. Poston who is averaging a career-low, 68.89, stroke per round to date this season. According to the latest GolfStat rankings (Oct. 21), Poston ranks third in the nation entering this weekend's tournament.
The 2013 field is a very strong one, comprised of the host Cougars, Charleston Southern, No. 40 Florida, Francis Marion, No. 5 Georgia, No. 62 Georgia Southern, No. 39 Kentucky, No. 92 Michigan, Michigan State, No. 82 Notre Dame, Rice, South Alabama, No. 17 South Florida and WCU.
