Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina men’s golf team opens its 2017 season on Sunday at the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate in Verona, N.Y. The two-day, three-round event is being played on the Turning Stone Resort’s Kaluhyat Course, playing at par-72 with a length of 6,857 total yards.
Tournament host, Missouri, has won five-straight tournament titles. In addition to the Tigers and the Catamounts, the 15-team field includes Alabama State, Binghamton, Boston College, Bucknell, Cleveland State, Detroit Mercy, Northern Kentucky, Sacred Heart, St. Peter’s, Villanova, Virginia Commonwealth (VCU), UNC Wilmington, and Youngstown State.
Live scoring through the tournament is available online at GolfStatResults.com.
WCU’s top two scorers from a season ago – seniors Dylan MacQueen and Jackson Bishop – lead the Catamount scoring five into the first event of the season. They are flanked by classmate Bright Julamool and freshmen Chandler Metz and Zach Caudill, both of whom were prep teammates at two-time state champion, Wilkes Central High.
MacQueen, who finished last season ranked fifth in the Southern Conference in stroke average at 72.44, was named All-SoCon following his first year in the Purple & Gold after transferring from Cardinal Stritch. Bishop (73.76) ranked 13th in the league a season ago while Julamool (74.76) was 25th in the conference individual rankings.
Results and recaps will be made available as soon as possible at the conclusion of play both days.
