Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina rising senior J.T. Poston was named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). Poston was among 207 NCAA Division I men's golfers nationwide and 10 from the Southern Conference to earn the distinction.
The 2013-14 Southern Conference's Men's Golfer of the Year, Poston was selected All-America twice following the season. He earned third team honors from Golfweek and honorable mention plaudits from PING. He was additionally selected PING All-East Region for the second time in his career.
Majoring in finance, Poston boasts a cumulative grade point average of 3.51.
To be eligible for the All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically; compete at least three full years at the collegiate level; participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds; have a stroke average under 76.0 in Division I; and maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
In addition to Poston, other SoCon men's golfers recognized included Will DiIanni from Elon; Michael Borton from Furman; Roy Dixon and Alex Ehlert from UNCG; Brent McKenzie and George Perkovich from Wofford.
Three student-athletes from former league members honored included Richard Fountain and Todd Eckstein from Davidson and Will Evans from Georgia Southern. Also recognized was James Beale from SoCon newcomer, Mercer.
