Cullowhee, N.C. - Former Western Carolina men’s golf All-American and PGA TOUR rookie, J.T. Poston, begins play in the 117th U.S. Open Championship on Thursday, one of 156 golfers competing for the prestigious crown at the Erin Hills Golf Course in Erin, Wis.
Paired with Yusaku Miyazato of Japan and Aaron Rai from England, Poston is slated to tee-off the front nine at 7:07 am local time, 8:07 am ET on Thursday morning with an afternoon tee time of 12:52 pm CT / 1:52 pm from the 10th tee on Friday. The first cut will be made on Friday following 36 holes of play.
Coverage of both the first and second rounds begins at 11:00 am on FS1 before switching to FOX at 6:00 pm.
Poston became the first Catamount men’s golfer to qualify for the national championship by winning a sectional qualifier back on June 5 in Columbus, Ohio. This year on the PGA TOUR, he has made the cut in 15 of the 20 events in which he’s competed this season. The Hickory, N.C., native has recorded four top-25 finishes and a season-best 10th-place finish in the Puerto Rico Open back in March after shooting a 15-under 273.
Currently, Poston is 104th in the FedExCup Standings, which awards points to players based on tournament results. The top 125 players will compete in the FedExCup Playoffs at the end of the season.
