Western Carolina's Matt Cook Opens Play at NCAA East Regional on Thursday Afternoon

FOLLOW THE NCAA EAST REGIONAL WITH LIVE SCORING FROM GOLFSTAT

Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina junior Matt Cook, who last week received his second career individual invitation, opens play in the NCAA East Regional Thursday (May 16) afternoon on the Lakeside Course at The Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta. Paired with fellow individual competitors, Russell Knox of Jacksonville and Jeff Dennis from North Florida, Cook will tee off on hole number 10 at approximately 1:32 pm.

Southern Conference team champion, Chattanooga, is also at the NCAA East Regional and will begin teeing off on the first hole at 1:05 pm.

The first round is set for Thursday, with the second and third rounds taking place Friday and Saturday with beginning tee times beginning at 7:00 am. Ten teams and two individuals not on advancing teams will move on from each regional to the championship finals which will be played on the Gold Course at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Williamsburg, Va., May 30-June 2.

This season, Cook has posted seven top 10 finishes, including three-consecutive individual medalist honors during the fall portion of the season and a fourth-place showing at last month's Southern Conference Championship. The All-SoCon performer and two-time SoCon Player of the Month this season was also twice recognized by Golf World, making its mid-season "All-American" team and was named "Most Surprising Player" in the nation by the publication.

In his first NCAA regional appearance last year, Cook, a native of Murphy, N.C., carded a three-round score of 237 in the event held at the Lake Nona Golf and Country Club in Orlando, Fla.
