Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina head men's golf coach Johnny Wike announced that Tripp Morrow and Michael Cope have signed National Letters of Intent for the 2003-04 season.

Morrow (Forest City, N.C./East Rutherford HS) earned All-State honors as a sophomore and freshman and is a three-time all-conference selection. In the summer of 2002, Morrow fired a 71, but lost in a playoff in the Western Junior Golf Association Tournament at Cliffs Valley Country Club. Also that summer, he carded a two-day scored of 139 to win the Broadmoor Junior Championship at Broadmoor Country Club. In 2001, Morrow additionally won medalist honors at the Western Junior Golf Association Tournament with a one-day round of 70 at the Links of Tryon Country Club.

Cope (Brevard, N.C./Brevard HS) was the WAC and Hendersonville Times-News Player of the Year in 2000 and a three-time all-conference selection. Also a two-time Asheville Citizen-Times All-Western North Carolina pick. Cope led his team to a seventh place finish in the 2000 state championships, placing a team-best 16th. is averaging 37.0 strokes per nine holes to date in his senior season. He has been medalist in six of his team's nine matches this season. In 2002, Cope carded a 68 at Springdale Country Club to win the IIAJC title and qualify for the USGA Qualifier.

"I am elated to sign two kids of this caliber from the mountains," Wike said. "Both Tripp and Michael are outstanding players. Being local, they wanted to come to Western Carolina University. Our program is on the rise and these two players will help make a contribution to our future success."
