Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina head men's golf coach Gorham Bradley today announced the signing of Trey White to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Catamounts next fall.

A two-time all-conference performer from Hickory HS, White played in the North Carolina State championship game in each of the past three seasons, 2006-08. He posted a runner-up finish in 2006, with an individual state championship the following year in '07. He fired the Hickory HS school-record low round of 67 as a part of the school's best ever team mark of 278 shot in 2008.

White also placed tied for 11th in the nationally ranked 2008 Joe Cheves Junior Invitational with rounds of 76 and 71.

"We are very excited with the addition of Trey White to our golf program at WCU. We are looking forward to his arrival in the fall and feel he will be competing for a spot in our starting lineup immediately," said Bradley. "Trey is an outstanding young man who has tremendous potential to develop into a great collegiate player. He is a very strong player who shows great length off the tee, but also has excellent feel around the greens."

Western Carolina travels to the 2009 Southern Conference Men's Golf Championships at the Country Club of South Carolina in Florence, S.C., this weekend. Practice rounds begin on Saturday, with the 54-hole event spread over three days beginning Sunday.
