Etowah, N.C. - Rylan Lanham posted a three-under, 69, to lead the field at the Independent Collegiate Invitational as four Western Carolina men's golfers play unattached as individuals at the par 72, 6,796-yard Etowah Valley Country Club. The junior transfer from Murphy, N.C., holds a one-stroke lead after playing through scattered rain showers and a damp course on Monday.

Lanham led the tournament in par 4 scoring over the first day at one-under, 3.90, while also ranking second on par 3 holes at one-under, 2.75. His 15 pars through the opening round ranks tied for first in the field of 86.
Brevard's Grant Carnie and Bret McGaughey are one-stroke back of Lanham, tied for second after rounds of two-under, 70, as five golfers broke par in the opening round.
