Cullowhee, N.C. -
On the heels of appearing on the 2014 Ben Hogan Award Watch List, Western Carolina junior men's golfer J.T. Poston has additionally graced the Haskins Award Watch List that was released in mid-February.
Golfweek's Spring Haskins Award Watch List
Poston was listed among the top 10 in eighth in Golfweek's first spring edition of the watch list entering the spring portion of the 2013-14 season. A native of Hickory, N.C., Poston recorded five top five finishes in the fall semester including the first three wins of his collegiate career. His worst finish was a tie for fourth-place at the N.C. State Wolfpack Intercollegiate held in Raleigh.
Poston, who earned an at-large bid into last season's NCAA post-season field, is tied with Virginia Tech junior Scott Vincent with the most individual medalist honors in the nation through the fall semester with three. Poston ranks first in the Golfstat Cup rankings after the spring and holds an 11th-place standing in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Golf rankings.
The Haskins Award is named in memory of Fred Haskins, a former golf teaching professional at the Country Club of Columbus, Ga. The award is presented annually by the Haskins Commission to honor the most outstanding collegiate golfer in the United States.
Western Carolina opens the spring portion of its 2013-14 schedule with the first of back-to-back trips to the state of Alabama in early March. WCU looks to improve upon its seventh-place finish in last year's Samford Intercollegiate when it visits the Hoover Country Club on March 3-4 before traveling to the Tiger Invitational at Grand National in Opelika, Ala.
