The Western Carolina men's golf team fired a 906, which is the eighth-lowest, three-round score in WCU history, to tie for 12th at the annual Sonic/Chattanooga Intercollegiate, held at Signal Mountain Country Club.
The Catamounts were led by junior college transfer Tim Eckberg, who carded a three-round total of 220. Eckberg shot rounds of 72-71 on Monday before turning in a 77 today to tie for 23rd. Eckberg's 220 is the 10th-lowest three-round total in school history. Western sophomore Ryan Barry had a consistent tournament with rounds of 74-74-76 for a 224, which tied him for 36th. Matt Flueckiger (229) and Chase Kress (233) rounded out Western's scoring.
Jacksonville State took team honor a 14-under 838, which was 23 strokes better than runner-up Tennessee Tech (861). Jacksonville State also claimed individual honors as Matais Anselmo won in a playoff over teammate Angel Monguzzi and Radford's Chris Clark.
The Catamounts will return to action Oct. 28-29 when they host the WCU Invitational at Waynesville's Laurel Ridge Country Club.
