HIXSON, TENN. --- The Western Carolina University men's golf team shot a third round total of 308 to finish 14th at the Chattanooga Intercollegiate Tuesday afternoon. The tournament was played at the 6,704 yard, par 71 Valleybrook Golf Course, where WCU shot a three-round total of 939, 87 over-par.
Sophomore Bryan Sangid was the Cats' top finisher with a 54-hole total of 230 (74-78-78), 17 over-par. Sangid tied for 36th place individually along with Sean Rice of Tennessee Tech. Wintrhop's Matt Johnson was the individual medalist with a one under-par, 212. He was the only player in the field to shoot par or better.
WCU sophomore Greg Lewis finished six strokes behind his teammate, Sangid, with a 236 (81-80-75), tied for 54th. Freshman Jason Huguet placed tied for 62nd, just one stroke back of Lewis (78-83-76).
Freshman Clay Kilgore posted a third round total of 85, placing 71st with a three-round total of 242 (80-77-85) and junior Lee Cline completed the Catamount team scoring with a 248 (85-84-79).
UNC Wilmington won the team title by 13 strokes over second place Belmont. The Seahawks shot the second lowest third round total of the day, finishing the event with an 875, 23 over-par.
The Catamounts will compete in their final tournament of the fall on October 23-24 at the Chris Cothran/Radford Invitational.
