Men's Golf Places Twelfth At The UNCW Invitational

WILMINGTON, N.C. --- The Western Carolina golf team shot a three-round total of 915, the seventh best three-round total in school history, to finish 12th at the UNCW Seahawk Invitational on Tuesday afternoon. The Catamounts shot a final round of 312 in their second tournament of the fall. The three-day tournament was held at the 7,009 yards, par 72 River Landing Country Club in Wallace, NC.

Team champion UNC Wilmington led at the completion of all three rounds, winning by 17 strokes over second place Elon. The Seahawks shot a tournament best 279 during the first 18 holes of play. UNCW was the only team to post a round of less than 280.

Junior Lee Cline recorded Western Carolina's best individual finish with a 54-hole total of 218 (72-71-75), two-over par, the second best three-round total in school history. He finished tied for 11th. Cline finished six strokes back of individual medalist Adam Gee of UNC Wilmington.

The Cats' best round of the tournament was the second round as they shot 292 as a team, which ranks as the third best single team round in the WCU record books. Sophomore Bryan Sangid also placed among the top 20 competitors with a nine-over par 221 (74-71-76), tying for 17th. Junior Jason Sugg placed 55th in the tournament with a three round total of 234 (76-73-85).

Also competing in the tournament for the Cats were freshman Jason Huguet (80-77-87), who placed 67th a 244. Junior Clint Johnson (89-78-85) finished 70th with a three round total of 252.

The Catamounts will next compete at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga Invitational on October 9-10.
