Waynesville, N.C. - High Point had four golfers shoot rounds in the 70's for a team total of 308 to hold a two-stroke lead over the 12-team field at the WCU-Laurel Ridge Intercollegiate at Waynesville's Laurel Ridge Country Club. The Catamounts posted a 312 on the first day to tie for fourth in the 36-hole event.
Radford's Marty Stanley and Eric Hooke each turned in a 73, one over par, to share the individual lead. Their play helped the Highlanders to place third after 18 holes, one shot behind second-place Lenoir-Rhyne (311). Gardner-Webb also shot 312 as a team to tie WCU for fourth.
Western was the only team other than Radford to place two players among the top 10 as Clay Kilgore and Greg Lewis each carded a three-over 75 to tie for fifth. Lee Cline and Andrew Paduch each added a round of 81, with Chase Kress rounding out the five-some with an 86.
The WCU-Laurel Ridge Intercollegiate will conclude with 18 holes on Tuesday. First tee times are set for 7:30 p.m. with play expected to finish by 4:00 p.m.
