Sunset Beach, N.C. - WCU senior golfer Tim Eckberg fired a three-under par 69 to take own the individual lead after the first round of the Elon/Sea Trail Intercollegiate, played at the Sea Trail Resort's Rees Jones Course. Eckberg's play put the Catamounts in eighth place with a team score of 307 in the 20-team field with 18 holes left to play on Sunday.

Eckberg's 69 ties for the third-lowest single round in WCU history and if two shots better than his previous low of 71, which he carded at Chattanooga last fall.

Host Elon and Liberty each shot a 294 on the first day to lead Davidson by two shots. Gardner-Webb (302) and Appalachian State (303) round out the top five.
