Western Carolina carded rounds of 303 and 304 for a two-day total of 607 to place 10th at the annual Elon/Sea Trail Men's Intercollegiate this weekend.
The Catamounts were led by junior Clay Kilgore. The Nebo, N.C., native fired a 147 (74-73) to tie for 14th. In marked his second top 15 finish in as many events this season, falling in a playoff at Lenoir-Rhyne's tournament. Ryan Barry (153), Blake Wray (155), Matt Flueckinger (157) and Chase Kress rounded out Western's scoring.
Southern Conference foe Davidson won the event by three strokes over host Elon. After a 293 on the first day, the Wildcats shot 280 on the second for their 573. Elon, who shot 293 on the second day, finished with a 576. Davidson also claimed the individual medalist honor, as Ben Fridell won the event with his 136 (69-67).
Western Carolina will return to action Oct. 14-15 at the Chattanooga Invitational. The two-round event is played at Signal Mountain Country Club.
