Spring Hill Suites Intercollegiate - Round 2 Results

Finishing the opening round tied for first, the Western Carolina men's golf team stands second after 36 holes of the season-opening Spring Hill Suites Intercollegiate being played at the par 72, 7,062-yard Country Club of South Carolina (CCSC). The Catamounts were led by Tanner Briele, who led through 18 holes after an opening round 66, and Kyle Wilson after each shot six-under 138 on Monday.
The third and final round will tee off on Tuesday morning from the CCSC, which is again the site of the 2010 Southern Conference Men's Golf Championship in April.
South Carolina-Aiken carded team rounds of 282 and 278 for a 36-hole score of 560 to lead WCU by four strokes after the Catamounts (564) posted consecutive rounds of 282. SoCon-foes Georgia Southern (565) and Furman (569) are third and fourth one and five strokes, respectively. Charleston Southern is fifth entering the final round, 10 strokes in arrears at 570.
Appalachian State's Casey Johnson fired an eight-under 136 on Monday to sit atop the individual leader board with 18 to play, one stroke ahead of a two-way tie for second between Elon's Jayson Judy (137) and Patrick Coleman of Presbyterian (137). Georgia Southern's Spencer Fulford shot a tournament-record and competitive course record, nine-under par 63 in the second round to stand in the five-way tie with Briele, Wilson, Josh Gallman of USC-Upstate and Justin Thompson of USC-Aiken.
Briele shot 66 and an even-par 72 to be in the clubhouse tied with teammate Wilson, who carded two under-par rounds of 68 and 70 for 138. Drew Miller is tied for 24th, rallying from an opening round, five-over 77 to shoot a five-under 67 on the second 18 holes for an even-par, 144. Briele, Miller and Wilson are all tied for second in the tournament with 10 birdies apiece.
Rounding out WCU's five scorers are Ricky Stout (73-73=146, t-39th) and Rylan Lanham (75-73=148) in a tie for 55th.
