Chattanooga, Tenn. - Western Carolina men's golf team slipped from its first-day, second-round 13th-place standing to finish the 2007 season-opening Scenic City Invitational in 15th-place. Senior Matt Cook and junior Andres Cuenca led the Catamount charge each finishing tied for 41st at the par 72, 6,999-yard Council Fire Golf Club.

Charlotte's Corey Nagy advanced two positions from a third-place tie after shooting a third-consecutive 68 on Tuesday to win the individual medalist honor with a nine-under 204. Behind Nagy, four men's golfers finished in a four-way tie with a seven-under, 206. Oklahoma's Eric Durbin, Chattanooga's Ben Rickett, Charlotte's Stefan Wiedergruen and Middle Tennessee State's Chas Narramore each tallied the runner-up finish.

After the first two rounds, Cuenca was the highest placing Catamount, tied for 19th after shooting a four-under, 140 (70-70). However, the Fuengirola, Spain native carded a 79 on Tuesday to slip into the tie for 41st. Conversely, Cook shot his tournament low, 69, in the final round to move from 65th into a tie with his teammate with a three-round total of 219. Cuenca led WCU - and was tied for second - in par 3 scoring in the event, shooting 2.93, or one-under, on the shortest holes while also firing an eagle in the tournament.

Freshman Caleb Marsh equaled Cook's final round, firing a 69 to wrap up his intercollegiate debut tied for 46th, one stroke in arrears of Cook and Cuenca with a 220.

Rounding out Western's players were sophomores Ricky Stout, who was tied for 57th with a three-round score of 222, with Benjy Davey placing 90th.

Western returns to action on Sept. 18-19 at the Raines Development Group Intercollegiate, hosted by Francis Marion at the Country Club of South Carolina. WCU finished seventh at the same event a year ago, which is being played at the same course as this season's Southern Conference Men's Golf Championship in April.
