Tallahassee, Fla. - Western Carolina shot 303 in Friday's opening round of the Seminole Classic to stand 13th with two rounds to play at the Seminole Classic at the Southwood Golf Course. The Catamounts are just six strokes out of the top 10 entering Saturday's second round.
Senior Ricky Stout leads the Catamounts in a nine-way tie for 13th after carding an even-par 71 on Friday, while classmates Tanner Briele and Drew Miller are both tied for 46th after shooting four-over, 76. Rounding out WCU's lineup were Trey White (80) in a tie for 66th with Kyle Wilson (82) tied for 70th.
Host Florida State turned in a combined six-under, 278, to lead the 14-team field, seven strokes ahead of second place North Carolina. South Carolina and Baylor each shot four-over 288 to stand tied for fourth, with Mississippi one stroke in arrears in fifth with a first round 289.
Jack Fields of North Carolina carded a five-under 66 to lead the 75-golfer field after 18 holes.
The second round is scheduled for Saturday with the third and final round set for Sunday.
