Athens, Ga. - Eighth after the opening 18 holes, the Western Carolina men's golf team slipped four spots over the second round, finishing the 2018 Southern Intercollegiate tied with USC Upstate for 12th-place overall at the par-72, 6,917-yard Athens Country Club. The Catamounts posted rounds of 301 and 313 for a total of 614 overall.

Senior Dylan MacQueen posted consecutive rounds of 4-over par, 76, for a 36-hole score of 152 to pace the Catamount scoring five in a tie for 36th overall. The Woodstock, Ontario, native was among the tournament leaders in par-5 scoring, shooting 3-under (4.63), finishing the event with four birdies -- two in both rounds.

Senior Bright Julamool and freshman Michael Coe slipped 20 positions over the final 18 holes into a tie for 45th overall with matching two-round scores of 154. The two both shot 3-over par, 75, in the first round before carding 79 in the second. Junior transfer George Whitbread finished tied for 63rd overall, sliding 38 spots in the final round with a second round score of 82. Whitbread led WCU with five birdies over the two-round event.

Rounding out WCU's scoring five was senior Jackson Bishop as the Gainesville, Ga., native bounced back from a first-round 83 to shoot 79 in the afternoon for a score of 162.

Ranked 18th in the latest GolfStat rankings, Arkansas cruised to the 17-stroke victory on Monday, posting rounds of 285 and 282 for a score of 567. Tournament host, Georgia, and Kennesaw State finished tied for the runner-up spot with matching scores of 584. Lipscomb finished fourth at 588 with No. 19 Florida State rounding out the top five teams in fifth at 592.

WCU was joined in the field by two Southern Conference schools as Chattanooga finished seventh at 602 and Wofford was just in front of the Catamounts in 11th overall at 610.

Arkansas duo Alvaro Ortiz and Luis Garza shared the individual medalist honors on Monday with matching 36-hole scores of 141. Ortiz jumped 15 spots over the final round after shooting 2-over par, 74, to start the day before carding a 5-under par second round. Garza was atop the leader board at the midpoint with a first-round score of 4-under par, 68, before finishing the day with a 1-over par, 73.

Western Carolina heads west for its next event, traveling to Phoenix, Ariz., to take part in the GCU Intercollegiate, hosted by Grand Canyon University at their home golf course. The 54-hole event will be played over two days, Friday, March 16 and Saturday, March 17. Live scoring will be available online through
