Samford Intercollegiate Round 1 Results

Western Carolina carded an opening round 303 on Monday to stand 11th out of 18 teams through 18 holes at the Samford Intercollegiate at the par-72, 6,987-yard Limestone Springs Golf Club.
Monday's second round was suspended due to darkness with teams completing between 14-to-15 holes. Teams will complete the second round on Tuesday morning beginning at 8:00 am CT / 9:00 am ET with the third and final round to begin immediately after.
Western Carolina sophomore Trey White led the Catamount side with an opening round one-over, 73, to stand tied for 15th. The Hickory, N.C., native was even through the turn before carding a one-over on the back nine Monday afternoon. Freshman Collin Witiak was one stroke back with a two-over 74 in a tie for 23rd with classmate Greg Bunner tied for 37th with a four-over, 76.
Rounding out WCU's side through the opening 18 holes were freshmen Jack Walsh (80, t-71st) and Michael Fitzgerald (84, 90th).
Central Arkansas shot a 14-under 274 to blister the field through the opening round, leading the Alabama JV squad by nine strokes after the Crimson Tide carded a five-over 293 to stand second. Central Arkansas had all four scorers post scores under par on Monday. Illinois State is third, two strokes in arrears at 295, followed by Eastern Kentucky (297) in fourth and a two-way tie for fifth between Southern Illinois and Winthrop at 11-over, 299.
Steven Lecuyer of Central Arkansas carded a five-under 67 to lead the 92-golfer field, one stroke ahead of second-place Billy Peel, Jr., of Eastern Kentucky in second and a six-way tie for third at three-under 69.
