Hilton Head, S.C. - Western Carolina posted the eighth-best score in the final round on Tuesday, shooting 297 for a two-round total of 602 to rally to a 10th-place finish at the spring season-opening Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate. The event was originally scheduled for three rounds, but inclement weather forced the opening day to be shortened from 36 to just 18 holes on Monday. Senior Ricky Stout led the Catamounts, finishing in a two-way tie for 12th after following up his two-over 74 on Monday with an even-par 72 over the final 18 holes. Classmate Drew Miller carded a three-over 75 on Tuesday to finish tied for 22nd, while freshman Trey White posted a 25th-place finish after trimming two strokes of his opening day 76 to shoot 74 for a total of 150. White ranked tied for second with 29 pars over the 36-hole event, while Miller was tied for second in par 5 scoring at three under with a stroke average of 4.63 on the course's longest holes. As a team, WCU carded 112 pars over the two round event. Rounding out WCU's squad, Kyle Wilson lowered his opening round score by five strokes to shoot 76 in the final round with a two-day score of 157 to place tied for 64th while Jonathan Davies fired consecutive rounds of 84 to finish at 168, 86th overall. Playing as an individual, senior Benjy Davey finished tied for 80th with a 164 over the two rounds. Paced by co-individual champion Lee Bedford, Wake Forest edged host Francis Marion by a stroke, 583-to-584, to win the team championship. SoCon-members Davidson (589) and Wofford (592) finished third and fourth, respectively, with William & Mary rounding out the top five at 594. Bedford finished tied with Jackson Taylor of Davidson at two-under 142. Western Carolina returns to action on March 11 through 14 at the Seminole Intercollegiate hosted by Florida State at the Southwood Golf Club in Tallahassee, Fla.
