Catamount Men's Golf Tied for 14th at Shortened Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate

Hilton Head, S.C. - Seniors Ricky Stout and Drew Miller each posted a two-over 74 to lead Western Carolina on Monday at the weather-shortened Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate. The Catamounts recorded a 17-over 305 to stand in a two-way tie with Southern Conference foe, Elon, but are just four strokes out of the top 10 after 18 holes. Because of heavy rains and lightning on Monday, the first day was shortened from two scheduled rounds to just one round. The final round will be played Tuesday. Stout shot 35 on the front nine and 39 on the back for 74, while Miller shot 38-36 to reach his opening round total to tie his teammate. Freshman Trey White was two strokes back in a tie for 41st at 76, with sophomore Kyle Wilson in a two-way tie for 74th after an opening round 81. Freshman Jonathan Davies rounded out the Catamount five with 84. Also for WCU, playing as an individual, senior Benjy Davey is tied for 64th after shooting 79 on Monday, Davidson's John Skedas, Ciaran McKenna of Francis Marion and Ben Westley each shot a two-under 70 on Monday to lead a four-way tie for fourth by a stroke after the first round. McKenna paced the host Francis Marion Patriots to the first round lead over Wake Forest with a one-over 289, four strokes ahead of the second-place Demon Deacons at 293. Davidson (296) is third followed by a two-way tie between SoCon members Samford and Wofford, one stroke in arrears at 297.
