Hilton Head Island, S.C. - Western Carolina sophomore J.T. Poston carded a two-under par 70 during Monday's opening round of the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate to lead the Catamounts (313) which sit tied for 16th overall at the par 72, 6,828-yard Wexford Plantation course. Poston concluded the first 18 holes amidst a three-way tie for the runner-up spot in the 90-golfer field.
Frost delayed the start of the opening round by an hour on Monday morning, therefore putting the golfers behind all day. Each squad has approximately five holes left to finish in round two which they will complete the Tuesday morning and before playing the final 18 holes.

Trey Valentine of South Florida led after 18 holes, shooting a three-under 69 in Monday's first round to lead the three-way tie for second.
Poston is among a threesome tied for second place in the individual standings, one stroke behind Valentine. Kenneth Svanum of Francis Marion and David Walker of Richmond also both shot 70 on Monday and are tied with Poston.
Behind Poston, Catamount senior Steven Smith shot an opening-round six-over, 78, to stand tied for 56th, just ahead of junior Jack Walsh in a tie for 61st, one-stroke in arrears at 79. Freshman Tyler Lail (86) and redshirt senior Kyle Wilson (88) rounded out WCU's scoring side in 88th and 89th, respectively.
