Darkness Halts Play with WCU Men's Golf Tied for Ninth

Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. - Sixth after the opening round of the 2017 Pro Compression Invitational, the Western Carolina men's golf team slipped into ninth-place overall before darkness halted play Monday at the par-72, 6,947-yard The Farms Golf Club. Just two holes shy of finishing the second round, Catamount junior Bright Julamool paced the WCU scoring five, sitting amongst a tie for 13th overall.

Catamount men's golf finished Monday's opening round in sixth-place, just a stroke outside of a two-way tie for fourth place at 8-over par, 296.

Play in the second round will resume at 11:45 am ET / 8:45 am PT and will continue into the third and final round utilizing the same pairings and a shotgun start. Live scoring is available online through GolfStatResults.com.

Julamool led the Catamounts through the opening 18 holes, shooting a season-low tying round of 1-under par, 71, to sit in a tie for 11th after the first round. Opening on the back nine, the Bangkok, Thailand, native carded three birdies through his first five holes. The lone blemishes of his first round came on back-to-back bogies on the fifth and sixth holes on the front nine. All told, he parred 13 of the first 18 holes of the tournament.

Through 16 holes in the second round, Julamool is 2-over par. He made the turn at 2-under with seven pars and a pair of birdies before two bogies and a double-bogey on the front nine. He has added 11 pars through 16 holes in round two to sit tied for fourth overall in the field with 24 total pars.

Junior transfer Dylan MacQueen is tied for 24th overall for WCU at 4-over par with one hole remaining in the second round, while classmate Jackson Bishop jumped five spots in the second round into a tie for 39th at 8-over par, two holes shy of 36.

With a bogey and two birdies through his first nine holes on Monday, MacQueen was 1-under par halfway through the opening round. However, two double-bogies -- both on par-3 holes -- countered by a third birdie left him at 2-over par, 74, in the first round. The Woodstock, Ontario, native added three birdies in the second round. Bishop was poised to close the first round at 1-over par before two double bogies and a bogey over his final three holes relegated him to 6-over par, 78. The Gainesville, Ga., product has four birdies in the second round with two holes to play at 2-over par.

Rounding out WCU's scoring five are sophomore Mark David Johnson in a tie for 46th overall and classmate Lawson King in a tie for 63rd, both two holes shy of completing the second round. Johnson, who was tied for 19th after the first round, countered three bogies with a pair of birdies for a first-round score of 1-over par, 73. He was even-par in the first round with three-holes to play until a bogey on the par-3 fifth left him at 1-over. King had four birdies and five pars in the first round, adding three more birdies and three additional pars in round two.

Playing unattached as an individual, sophomore Bradley Durand posted an opening round score of 5-over par, 77, but has slid into a tie for 58th in the second round. Senior Evan Smith posted a first-round score of 84 and sits in 68th overall with two holes remaining in the second round.

According to live scoring results through GolfStatResults.com, first-round leader, UC Santa Barbara, continues to hold a 15-stroke advantage over second-place Wichita State. The Shockers have pulled ahead of a two-way tie with Loyola Marymount -- Calif., for the runner-up spot after the first 18-holes. Cal Poly sits fourth and Seattle University in fifth-place.

Individually, UCSB's Zach Smith jumped two spots in the second round to move into a tie with Yannick Emmert of Wichita State atop the leader board, both at 10-under par. Smith is amidst a 4-under par round after shooting 6-under over the first 18 holes, while Emmert carded nine birdies for a 9-under par first round and is 1-under in the second round.
