Cullowhee, N.C. -
The new turf installation project at Western Carolina University's E.J. Whitmire Stadium / Bob Waters Field hits day five on Wednesday. The old turf and previous base materials have already been removed and the rolling out of the new turf material started early Tuesday morning just after 7:00 am.
The project began just a few hours following last Saturday's home game against the nationally-ranked Liberty Flames. Surveyors from the Carolina Green, Corp., of Indian Trail, N.C., took measurements prior to the heavy machinery rolling in just after 11:00 pm. The majority of Sunday was spent removing the old rubbber/sand mixture base.
The new turf is a product of the European-based Desso Sports Systems.
Fans can follow along with the turf installation with a live web cam, mounted atop the press box at Whitmire Stadium. Visit Carolina Green's web site at www.CGCFields.com and click on the link for "Renovations to Western Carolina University - View Project Progress."
