Cullowhee, N.C. - Returning from a trip to Paradise in Hawai'i, the Western Carolina Catamount football team opens the home portion of its schedule Saturday by hosting the Davidson Wildcats (1-0) on-campus at E.J. Whitmire Stadium / Bob Waters Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
All fans are encouraged to wear black to the Saturday evening's game to take part in the #BLACKOUT promotion. The first 5,000 fans through the gates will receive a free, BLACKOUT T-shirt. During Saturday's pregame, WCU continues a seven-year tradition as University chancellor, Dr. David Belcher, will lead the incoming freshman class onto the field in the annual Freshman Run.
As the Catamounts (0-1) take the field, two inspirational special guests will bring the Purple & Gold out of the tunnel. Retired U.S. Army Staff Sgt. and wounded military veteran Adam Palmer will hoist the American flag and carry the Stars & Stripes onto the field ahead of the Catamounts, while 2017 football signee, Cam Brown, who is fighting osteosarcoma -- an aggressive form of bone cancer -- will carry the team's "All You Got" flat.
Saturday night has also been dubbed Catamount Club Day with a special "thank you" to the Catamount Club members.
Fans can follow Saturday evening's game live on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app with Daniel Hooker and Kyle Rush on the call, while Katie Miller patrols the sidelines.
Additionally, Saturday's game will be broadcast on the Catamount Sports Network with air time of the Pepsi Tailgate Show at 5:00 pm. Fans can listen to all of the action locally on WWCU-FM Power 90dot5 in Cullowhee; 540 AM WRGC in Sylva; 104.9 FM & 1050 AM WFSC in Franklin; and WISE Sports Radio 1310 / 970 AM and 97.3 FM in Asheville/Canton. Longtime "Voice of the Catamounts" Gary Ayers, continues as the play-by-play announcer and will be joined in the booth during home games by color commentator Greg McLamb -- a nine-year veteran of the CSN crew -- and producer Jeff Bryson. Dan Gibson, who spent the past two seasons on the network crew, will handled sideline duties for home games in 2017.
CatamountSports.com is also a hub for game coverage on Saturday evening with a couple of ways to catch the game. Live streaming audio from the Catamount Sports Network (CSN) through Stretch Internet is available free of charge with free GameTracker provided through CBS interactive.
Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
