Western Carolina Football Game Notes - at Vanderbilt Get Acrobat Reader

Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina Catamount football team turned its focus to this Saturday's season opener at Vanderbilt on Sunday afternoon with a two-hour practice on-campus. The 24-session, full-pad workout was held on the grass fields across from Whitmire Stadium.

Sunday's workout opened with special teams work, followed by individual position instruction before the offense and defense drilled against Vanderbilt scouting opposition.

Following Monday's off-day for players, which included meetings and film study, the team will resume preparations on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings before hitting the turf for an evening practice Thursday in front of Friday's travel day. Also on Tuesday, head coach Dennis Wagner will take part in the weekly Southern Conference Head Coaches Teleconference call, with a recap to be posted online at CatamountSports.com.

Only one player was held out of Sunday afternoon's practice as offensive lineman Nathan Postelle was sidelined with a concussion and restricted for precautionary purposes. Two players did report with flu-like symptoms and were dismissed from practice. Although not officially diagnosed on Sunday for the H1N1 strand, they did receive treatment from the WCU Athletic Trainers and were scheduled to visit the health center on Monday.

Western Carolina opens its 2009 season - the second under Dennis Wagner - this Saturday, Sept. 5 at 7:30 pm ET / 6:30 pm CT in Nashville, Tenn., against the Vanderbilt Commodores. The game can be seen live on Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS), or as a part of the ESPN Game Plan. Fans can also follow all of the play-by-play with the Catamount Sports Network, beginning at 6:00 pm ET with an expanded, 90-minute pre-game show.

For those fans making the trip to "the Music City,", the Catamount Club will be centralizing their tailgate for the Vanderbilt game in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn Select at Vanderbilt in downtown Nashville, which is very close to the entrance of Vanderbilt Stadium.

Supporters not staying at the hotel are encouraged to park in the 25th Avenue Garage and walk to the Holiday Inn Select at Vanderbilt to join the Catamount Club and and other WCU fans.

Please check back for more information on a Catamount Club gathering in Nashville on Friday evening, as details to be finalized soon. For more information on the Catamount Club tailgates, call 828.227-3047.
