Western Carolina University Tailgating Policies
From the Desk of Gorham Bradley, Director of the Catamount Club
With the 2008 Football season almost here, that also means that “Tailgating Season” is right around the corner. The Catamount Club has made a few changes to our football pre-game event and we wanted to take the opportunity to make you aware of them. We have made the decision to move our Football Pre-game event to the patio of the Jordan Phillips Field House.
Our Football Pre-game event will be a stand alone event for Catamount Club members only, who are members at the Top Cat level or above and will be called the "Purple Zone." We are very excited about our new location as it will provide a fantastic setting for socializing with friends and gearing up for Catamount Football.
The Purple Zone Football Pre game event will officially begin an hour and a half before kickoff, and will end 30 minutes prior to the start of the game to give you ample time to find your seats. You will be required to enter and exit the Purple Zone through the main entrance of the Jordan Phillips Field House, not the stairs from the Football field.
Catamount Club members at the Top Cat Level or above who plan on attending the Purple Zone Football pre-game event must RSVP with the Catamount Club Office at (828) 227-3047 or by completing the registration form enclosed in your membership packet. Reservations for the Purple Zone Football Pre game event must be made within one week of each game to ensure that we will be able to accommodate all that attend.
Thank you again for your support of the Catamount Club and we look forward to seeing you back in Cullowhee this fall!
New WCU Student Tailgating Rules are in Effect for '08 Football Season
CULLOWHEE – A new tailgating policy at Western Carolina University will be in effect beginning this fall football season, with designated tailgating areas for students, Catamount Club members, returning alumni and visiting fans.
The most significant change in tailgating focuses on a permit process for those students who are of legal drinking age and want to host tailgating activities that include consumption of alcoholic beverages. Students hosting tailgating activities involving alcohol must register and purchase a permit for each home game.
A full-season tailgating permit costs $120 for the six home games, or students can purchase a one-game permit for $25. All proceeds from the sale of permits will be used to offset the expenses associated with safety and security services.
“We believe the new tailgating policy provides a framework and process that helps us make progress on three priorities,” said Sam Miller, WCU vice chancellor for student affairs. “It builds a positive foundation for the growth of tailgating in the future; it reminds our students of their responsibilities during tailgating activities; and most importantly, it enhances the safety of tailgating for our students.”
Student tailgating permits are available in the administrative offices of A.K. Hinds University Center. For more information, call (828) 227-7206.
