Cullowhee, N.C. - With preseason camp concluded on Sunday afternoon, the Western Carolina football team joined the 9,600-plus other students on the first day of classes on-campus Monday before returning to the practice field during the afternoon hours.
Ten days away from its first game, WCU is scheduled for three, fully-padded practices this week with Wednesday spent in shells and a helmet-only practice on Friday afternoon. The squad is scheduled to have an off-day on Saturday, Aug. 24 before resuming game-week preparations on Sunday, Aug. 25.
Western Carolina opens the 2013 season - the second under head coach Mark Speir - on Thursday, August 29, in Murfreesboro, Tenn., against the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 pm ET / 6:30 pm CT.
Speir and his coaching staff expect to have a projected two-deep including which quarterback will start the season opener by the middle-to-latter parts of this week.
