Over the next couple of weeks, CatamountSports.com will feature positional previews of the 2014 Catamount football team including the write-ups from the 2014 Western Carolina media guide, and Catamount Sports Network video features.
WCU enters 2014 with four returning starters on the preseason two-deep at DB. Those four hold a combined 90 collegiate games played including 85 career starts to represent one of the most experienced positions for the Catamounts.
Headlining the returners is redshirt senior Ace Clark, who landed on the SoCon All-Freshman team in 2011 and was a second team All-SoCon pick a year ago. Clark ranked fourth on the 2013 squad with 84 tackles which ranks third among WCU's returning defenders.
Jaleel Lorquet, a junior who landed on the 2012 SoCon All-Freshman squad, adds to the starting depth. Lorquet finished with 60 stops a season ago. Sophomore Bryson Jordan, who started all 12 games at linebacker a season ago, moves into the secondary this fall with his 53 tackles from a year ago.
Sophomores Trey Morgan (12 starts) and Fred Payne (12 games, 1 start) as well as juniors Terrence Green and A.J. McKoy will factor heavily into playing time.
Talented newcomers in Keion Crossen (Garysburg, N.C.), Tra Hardy (Vidalia, Ga.), Shane Samuels (Duncan, S.C.) and Chris Seaborn (Atlanta, Ga.), should push for playing time during preseason and as the year progresses.
