Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina's Athletic Marketing this week unveiled the 2014 promotional schedule for the six home dates at E.J. Whitmire Stadium / Bob Waters Field. In addition to exciting Southern Conference football, fans can enjoy a myriad of gate and in-game promotions throughout the year.
"We are excited about our home slate for the 2014 season," said WCU third-year head football coach Mark Speir. "We are trying to create the best game day atmosphere in the Southern Conference. We have a lot of unique groups that we are recognizing this year, from our U.S. Military, Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, Western North Carolina youth football, to our always anticipated Homecoming weekend."
Speir added, "There will be no better place to be on the planet than in the `Whee this fall. 2014 is the Year of the Cats!"
Brett Metcalf, WCU Athletics' Director of Marketing & Promotions, said, "We are beyond excited for the 2014 season. Coach Speir and his staff have been working to get the football team ready for a memorable season, and we are planning to make it just as memorable for our fans and their experience inside E.J. Whitmire Stadium. Western Carolina's football student-athletes officially report for fall camp on Thursday, July 31 with the first helmet-only practice scheduled for the following day on Friday, August 1. The Catamounts open the 2014 season - the third under head coach Mark Speir - in a pre-Labor Day meeting with the USF Bulls on Saturday, August 30 in Tampa, Fla., in a game that can be seen on ESPN3.
Season tickets for all six of WCU's home games in 2014 are on-sale through the Catamount Athletic Ticket Office and online at CatamountSports.com. Purchasing season tickets also allows fans to secure tickets before single-game sales begin on August 25. With Western Carolina University celebrating its 125th anniversary, fans can purchase a reserved adult season ticket for all six home games for just $125 with youth reserved starting at $65.

Catamount Club Day: The Buchanan Boys will be performing pre-game outside of the Ramsey Center;
Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day: ALL Western Carolina University Faculty & Staff will receive FREE Admission to the Catamounts Home-Opener on September 6. All Faculty & Staff members should also receive a postcard with an invitation to the game at the beginning of the school year which they should bring with them to the game to be entered into a drawing to win a three-day, two-night stay at Bear Lake Reserve in a Luxury Lodge;
Ingles Day: Beginning on August 8, stop by any participating Western North Carolina Ingles store and receive a coupon good for adult admission to the game for just $10, a savings of $5;

4th-Annual Freshman Run: In a tradition began in 2011, Western Carolina University Chancellor Dr. David Belcher will continue the benchmark for future Purple & Gold classes as all WCU freshmen will join him for a pregame entrance through the Cat Head tunnel onto the turf at Whitmire Stadium, preceding the first home entrance of the Catamount football team in 2014;
Catamount Coupons: There will be 10,000 sheets of "Catamount Coupons" passed out that include exclusive coupons and discounts to local businesses in Western North Carolina;
Halftime Surprise: WCU Athletics and our beloved mascot "Paws" have a BIG surprise for all Catamount fans at halftime. Be sure to stay in your seats because you won't want to miss this.

WCU Family Weekend: This is a great weekend at Western Carolina that is sure to always bring a big crowd to Catamount Football. This year, ALL families who are registered for Family Weekend have the opportunity to choose between two exclusive ticket packages. For $30, registered families can receive a ticket to the game AND concessions voucher OR a $35 ticket for the game & pre-game BBQ lunch - contact the ticket office for more information;
Guinness Book of World Record Attempt: September 13, 2014 has also been dubbed, "Fortune Cookie Day," and the Catamounts plan to make the most of it; 10,000 PURPLE fortune cookies have been ordered to celebrate this great day, courtesy of Bear Lake Reserve. Not only that, but at a designated point during the game, we will ask every fan to open their fortune cookie at the same time, thus, the Western Carolina Catamounts will hold the Guinness Book of World Record for Most People Opening Fortune Cookies Simultaneously! We can't wait to have you come and be a part of this fun, awesome record.

Smokey Mountain Youth Football Day: Western Carolina Athletics will welcome all teams, cheerleaders, coaches and families from the Smokey Mountain Youth Football League to E.J. Whitmire Stadium on October 11 to cheer on our Catamounts vs. SoCon-foe, Wofford. ALL kids wearing their Smokey Mountain Youth Football jersey and ALL cheerleaders wearing their uniform will receive FREE admission. In addition, all teams in the league will be selling tickets leading up to WCU's game - the team that sells the most tickets will earn the right to play their next regularly scheduled game on Bob Waters Field following the WCU vs. Wofford game;
Jackson County Chamber Day: The Jackson County Chamber of Commerce and WCU Athletics have partnered to bring a great event at WCU football! ALL Jackson County Chamber members and their families will have the opportunity to purchase a $20 ticket to the game that will include a pre-game tailgate meal.

Homecoming/All Sports Reunion: Western Carolina's annual Homecoming game is always a highlight of the season. With a weekend full of great events around campus, we hope you all will join us in the 'Whee, and finish off a weekend to remember by cheering on our Catamounts to victory. Eastern Band of Cherokee Day: Brain-child and initiated by WCU head football coach, Mark Speir, Western Carolina Athletics will be celebrating the culture and traditions of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. The following will all be done to honor the EBCI:
o Exclusive reserved pre-game tailgate area;
o ALL WCU players will wear an exclusive logo designed by the EBCI on one side of their helmet, as well as Catamounts translated in Cherokee on the front of the helmet;
o The game program will include a copy of the Cherokee Syllabary, as well as the WCU Football Roster translated in the Cherokee Syllabary;
o Chief Michell Hicks will perform the ceremonial pre-game coin toss;
o Special on-field recognition of Eastern Band of Cherokee Day Committee members, as well as other significant EBCI members;
Kids' Day: ALL Catamount Kid's Club (CKC) members receive FREE admission to this game. If you are not a member of the CKC, we still encourage you to join us as we will have inflatables, games and more for everyone. You can also sign up to be a member of the CKC at the game and receive great benefits all year long through May of 2015. Paws Bobblehead Giveaway: WCU Athletics will be giving away a one-of-a-kind "Paws" Bobblehead to the first 1,000 fans through the gate, courtesy of Pepsi. Paws will be sporting the number 125 on his back in celebration of WCU's 125 year anniversary.

Senior Day: The afternoon begins with a special pre-game ceremony honoring Western Carolina's seniors including Catamount football players and managers, Catamount cheerleaders and members of the WCU Dance Team. At halftime, WCU will also recognize the senior members of the "Pride of the Mountains" Marching Band;
Hall of Fame Weekend: Beginning with a special ceremony on both Friday night and Saturday morning, be a part of a very special game where WCU will induct the 2014 Western Carolina University Athletics Hall of Fame class - the 25th in school history;
Military Appreciation Day: WCU Athletics extends a special invitation to all of the men and women who have served, or are currently serving, in our nation's Armed Forces. ALL military veterans will receive FREE Admission, and their families will receive discounted tickets for just $10. All four branches of the U.S. Military will be represented and have special promotional items for all fans. We also have a special presentation planned for halftime to honor all military veterans and active duty members.
