Cullowhee, N.C. -
Western Carolina's 2014 season-opening football game against the University of South Florida at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla., will kick off at 7:00 pm and will be broadcast live on ESPN3 it was announced by the American Athletic Conference and USF on Thursday afternoon.
The August 30 meeting is the first-ever between USF and the Catamounts on the football gridiron. WCU fans can purchase tickets for the game in Tampa through the WCU Athletic Ticket office for just $26. Catamount Club members are eligible to travel with WCU Athletics for the game in Tampa with lodging at the Westin Tampa Harbour Island. The season-opening game at South Florida marks the Catamounts' fifth trip to the state of Florida since joining the SoCon in 1976. Other opponents include three games at Florida State (1981, 1985, 2008) and a 2006 visit to "the Swamp" and the University of Florida.
Amidst the changing landscape of college athletic conference alignments, WCU has only faced two of the 11 institutions that will comprise the American Conference in 2014-15. The Catamounts visited Cincinnati in 2005, and holds a 13-17 overall record against league newcomer - and directional rival - East Carolina, last facing the Pirates in 1981.
