Catamount Gridiron Notes: 2014 Home Kickoff Times Announced

Western Carolina third-year head football coach, Mark Speir.

June 2, 2014

Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina today announced the kickoff times for the six Catamount football home dates this fall. The schedule will be split down the middle with the first three games to begin at 3:30 pm, while the final three contests are slated for 2:00 pm start times at E.J. Whitmire Stadium / Bob Waters Field.

WCU's 2014 football schedule features six combined home dates and a pair of games against NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) squads to bookend the ledger. The schedule includes a pair of first-time opponents (South Florida and Mercer), as well as the rekindling of the series with longtime league member, VMI. It is also the first time since 2011 that WCU has had a six-game home schedule.

Western Carolina's 2014 home season kicks off with back-to-back home weekends, both with 3:30 pm kickoffs against nonconference foes. The Catamounts host the revived Brevard College football team for the first time since 1945 on Sept. 6 before entertaining Catawba the following weekend (Sept. 13) for the first meeting since 1969. The home opener is also billed as Catamount Club Day with all club members invited back for the first home football game of the season, while WCU students welcome parents on Family Weekend as WCU faces Catawba.

Wofford provides the first home Southern Conference opponent on Sat., Oct. 11, scheduled for a 3:30 pm kickoff.

A second grouping of back-to-back home dates marks the start of earlier kickoff times on WCU's 2014 schedule. The Citadel is the annual Homecoming game opponent as the Bulldogs come to Cullowhee on Oct. 25 with the earlier 2:00 pm kickoff. WCU will also again welcome home all of its former student-athletes, coaches, managers and athletic trainers for the third-annual All Sports Reunion on Homecoming weekend.

Then, on Sat., Nov. 1, Chattanooga marks the second-straight home date with a 2:00 pm start. The Mocs finished tied atop the league standings a season ago with a 6-2 league mark.

WCU wraps up the home portion of its 2014 schedule against VMI on Sat., Nov. 15 in Cullowhee, again with kickoff at 2:00 pm. It is the first meeting between the two since 2002 after the Keydets joined the Big South Conference. The Catamounts have won 11-straight games in the head-to-head series. WCU will honor its senior members of the football team, cheerleading squad, dance team and "Pride of the Mountains" Marching Band, while also honoring its 25th induction class into its Athletics Hall of Fame.

Additional promotional information surrounding each home game will be released in the coming days.

Season tickets for all six home games in 2014 are on-sale now through the Catamount Athletic Ticket Office and online at Returning season ticket holders have the first opportunity to renew their same seats for the 2014 season before the entire stadium will be released to the general public. A correspondence relaying the information for those individuals able to renew season tickets at E.J. Whitmire Stadium / Bob Waters Field has been sent out with the rapidly approaching deadline of June 30.

With Western Carolina University celebrating its 125th anniversary, fans can purchase a reserved adult season ticket for all six home games for just $125 with youth reserved starting at $65.

Purchasing season tickets also allows fans to secure tickets before single-game sales begin on August 25.

Fans can also be a part of the Catamount road team by purchasing tickets for away games through the WCU Athletic Ticket Office to secure seats in the Western Carolina sections at opposing team stadiums. Road Game Kickoff Times Starting to be Unveiled
Although the kickoff time for WCU's season-opener at USF in Tampa, Fla., has yet to be announced, several other road game times have been released by the host institutions, and are starting to fill in the schedule.

WCU's first conference road game of the year against defending SoCon champion, Furman, will kick at 3:00 pm at Paladin Stadium - the Catamounts' first trip to the facility since the facelift and press box renovations. Kickoff at SoCon-newcomer, Mercer, is scheduled for 4:00 pm in Macon, Ga.

WCU is still awaiting kickoff time announcements by Presbyterian (Oct. 4); Samford (Nov. 8); and Alabama (Nov. 22), though it was released that the Catamounts are the homecoming foe for the Crimson Tide.
