Cullowhee, N.C. - Back by popular demand, this Memorial Day weekend Catamount Athletics today announced its first special promotion for the 2018 Catamount football season as fireworks will again light up the western North Carolina sky following Western Carolina's home-opener against Newberry on Labor Day weekend.
WCU will host a "White Out" at E.J. Whitmire Stadium / Bob Waters Field as the Catamount football team will sport its all-white look with white adidas jerseys over white pants. Two seasons ago, 11,598 packed Whitmire Stadium for the Catamounts' home opener and the "White Out" victory over Gardner-Webb, while 11,763 helped "black out" Whitmire Stadium a season ago in WCU's convincing 63-17 victory over Davidson.
For a fourth-straight year, WCU's postgame fireworks extravaganza following its home-opener will be presented by Ingles and iHeartRadio partners, 99.9 Kiss Country and Star 104.3. Fans can make their plans to spend the long holiday weekend in western North Carolina with Catamount football and fireworks.
"Ingles is so excited to be a part of Catamount football this year and coming together with our friends at iHeartRadio to sponsor the big fireworks show and White Out is very special. What a wonderful way to enjoy Labor Day Weekend in western North Carolina," said Melissa Leavell, Director of Advertising for Ingles Markets.
Kickoff times and a complete listing of special events surrounding each of Western Carolina's five home dates will be announced later.
Western Carolina is coming off of its third, seven-win season over the past four years and is looking to make a push for a return to the NCAA FCS playoffs for the first time since 1983. WCU led the Southern Conference -- and ranked 23rd nationally in the NCAA FCS -- in average attendance with 10,547 fans last year, eclipsing the average of the previous season that had been the largest average home attendance in Cullowhee since 1991.
"Catamount Nation has been awesome the past few years in supporting this football program -- and we need that continued support for our five home games and even going on the road to support this team in 2018," said WCU seventh-year head coach Mark Speir upon the release of the schedule in January.
The best way to lock-in tickets for the 2018 home-opener and the highly-anticipated fireworks night is to purchase season tickets for each of WCU's five home games which are on-sale now through the WCU Athletics Ticket Office, located on the first floor of the Ramsey Center, and online at CatamountSports.com. Returning season ticket holders must renew their season tickets to secure the same seats by June 29, 2018. A reminder that the Catamount Club membership and renewal deadline is fast approaching -- members are reminded to renew -- or to join -- by May 31, 2018 to take advantage of the many perks surrounding home football weekends.
Fans can call the ticket office toll free at (800) 34-GOWCU or (828) 227-2401. General admission season tickets for adults begin at just $75 with additional Purple and Gold Reserved and options in the Western Builders Inc., Family Zone seating options also available. A limited number of chairback season tickets are still available priced at just $125 for adults and $65 for youth (ages 3-12).
