Cullowhee, N.C. -
Western Carolina linebacker Adrian McLeod today received 2009 NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision preseason All-America recognition from Consensus Draft Services (CDS). McLeod was named to the first team defense by the group which selected its preseason honorary squad for all levels of NCAA Football, as well as the NAIA, for the sixth-consecutive year.
McLeod was one of seven players recognized from teams in the Southern Conference between the first and second teams with six landing on the first-team offense and defense. All told, 12 SoCon players were named including five as honorable mentions.
A native of Oxon Hill, Md., McLeod led the Catamount defense a season ago with 100 tackles including 55 solo stops and 12 tackles for loss. He had one interception with a pair of blocked kicks and two sacks in 2008.
McLeod garnered SoCon Defensive Player of the Month accolades in November after posting 34 tackles in the final month of the season, including a career-high 17 against arch-rival, Appalachian State, which earned him SoCon Defensive Player of the Week plaudits.
Western Carolina opens the 2009 season on Saturday, September 5 on the road at Vanderbilt.
