Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina football will conduct the 12th practice of its spring drills on Saturday afternoon in a two-hour session that is slated to include the annual Spring Game, presented by Wells Fargo, on-campus at E.J. Whitmire Stadium / Bob Waters Field. The free event is open to the public and is scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm.
The practice session will include around 40 minutes of practice including individual position, unit, and team drills with approximately an hour-long scrimmage featuring the offense vs. the defense. Unlike in years past, there will be no actual score kept during the intrasquad scrimmage.
Seventh-year head coach Mark Speir is slated to be mic’d up to deliver his thoughts at times to the fans in attendance. There will also be live on-going commentary and information delivered over the stadium speaker system during both the practice and scrimmage sessions.
Saturday’s full day of activities kicks off at 10:00 am with three-plus hours of tailgating on campus in Cullowhee. The Ramsey Center and Stadium parking lots will both be reserved for Catamount Club members by permit, with parking and general tailgating available in the Creek Lot, the Fieldhouse Lot, as well as lots around Camp Lab.
Fans are asked to sit on the West Side grandstands opposite the press box as the East Side of the stadium will be closed on Saturday. Spectators without proper credentials are also respectfully asked to avoid being on either the field or the sidelines for the safety of all. Concessions, restrooms, souvenir stands, and marketing materials including spring roster cards will be available on the West Side concourse areas.
Saturday’s football practice and annual Spring Game, presented by Wells Fargo, is just one of several events on campus this weekend in Cullowhee. Following Saturday’s football practice, fans are encouraged to head over to Childress Field / Hennon Stadium for Southern Conference baseball as the Catamounts host the UNCG Spartans with an anticipated first pitch at 4:00 pm. The Catamount softball team also hosts league-foe, Chattanooga, at the Catamount Softball Complex with a Saturday a doubleheader scheduled for 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm start times.
Following Saturday’s annual Spring Game, the Catamounts will practice three more times in the coming week, keeping with the Monday-Wednesday-Friday practice schedule.
